Psalm 24:1 The earth is the LORD’S, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
I Corinthians 10:26 For the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.
What a magnificent revelation to God’s creatures — that the world we live in and we ourselves area the Lord’s! We belong to God Almighty, the Creator of the heavens and the earth! How exciting is that? God is not an impersonal force that made everything and decided to leave! It may appear that way to some people, but He is in control and always has been. The sovereignty of our Lord God cannot be compromised by mortal man or God’s angelic host. The earth — and all therein — are the Lord’s and that settles it.
The biggest question I hear from people, whether they believe in the Creator or not, is, “Why is there so much evil in the world if God is in charge?” That’s a good question that deserves an answer. Don’t feel bad if you’ve asked that question. Just asking it demonstrates the love for life and the love for rightness built within man’s heart — which is simply more evidence of divine creation. There is a loving Creator behind this universe and He created everything for a reason. We are that reason. How humbling is that? How extraordinary! How supremely divine!
God wanted fellowship with creatures created in His image (spirit). But to accomplish that, He didn’t want to make robots that would simply obey everything He said spontaneously. He wanted people who made their own choice to love Him or leave Him. He gave his creatures choice, which some call ‘free will,’ to make up their own mind whether they want to choose good (which God is) or evil (which is everything apart from God). This earth is the testing ground, the realm of choice where we decide on our own whether we want to walk with God or not.
Ephesians 1:3-10 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love
he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—
to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace
that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding,
he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,
to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.
Did you see that word, “purposed?” God purposed! Everything He has done and continues to do has a purpose and we, my friend, are God’s purpose! We are why He did the whole thing.
Why is there Evil in the World?
Evil exists so we can make a choice between it and God. Without evil there is no choice. Now this may be a new concept for many people, but just think about it a moment. If God is all good, and He is, then what is outside of God? Not ‘good.’ Bad. Evil. For man to know good from evil, he as to experience both.
Do you remember the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? Who placed that tree in the garden where God placed Adam and Eve? God did, of course! God placed the tree of the knowledge of good and evil right there in the garden, then told man not to eat from it for in the very day they did they would die.
Then the devil, a spiritual being created by God, entered the garden and tempted Eve. She fell to his temptation because he deceived her into thinking she was missing out on something that God didn’t want her to have. Who allowed the devil to enter the garden of paradise? God did, of course. Didn’t he know the devil would tempt man? Of course He did. Didn’t he know man would succumb to the temptation and fall? Of course He did.
The tree of the knowledge of good and evil didn’t have two kinds of fruit — one good and one evil! The fruit, whatever it was, contained both good and evil — in the same fruit. It can be argued that man already knew what good was and that evil is the only thing he picked up at the fall, but how could Adam and Eve known what they had was ‘good’ if they didn’t know what evil was? They could not.
When you really think about this, you realize that this world is a training ground for God’s crown of creation, man. Man has to learn to choose good over evil without being made (like a robot) to choose good. God want’s godly people, in God’s image, who want to be with God for eternity. The only way He could bring that about is to put them in a situation where they could choose good (what God says is good and what God wants) from evil (what God does not want).
We are not on Plan B. God didn’t make everything very good and then get shocked that the devil disobeyed him and get even more shocked when man didn’t obey him. God counted on these things in His grand plan. God is on Plan A, His only plan for mankind. All things are working together for good to accomplish His Word and Will and absolutely nothing, no-one or anything can stop it from coming to pass. God spoke it and it will indeed come to pass.
Romans 8:19-21 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God;
for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope
that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
God ‘subjected’ the creation to futility on purpose. Bad things happen because evil exists. Evil exists because God is training mankind to choose good over evil and if evil did not exist there would be no choice at all. He’s have lovely little robots doing everything He wanted by design and not by choice. How fake is that? It’s utterly boring! God wants fellowship with people He created in His own image who want to have fellowship with Him.
And therein is your choice this day. Will you choose ‘non-God’ or to submit to God and be blessed, as it says in Ephesians 1 quoted above, “with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus?” When you see what Adam and Eve’s choice resulted in, I would think you’d want to make a better choice than they did.
Obeying God is the surest way to living a life that is abundant both now and in the world to come. Not everything is rosy down here on planet earth, but when you realize who is in absolute control, then things don’t seem so bad. This 6,000 or so years since Adam seems like a long struggle to us, but when you think about it in terms of eternity, it’s just a flash in the pan, a drop in the bucket, a second of time in relation to ‘forever.’
Don’t blame God for evil in the world. Who then to blame? Blame those spirits and humans who choose against God. Blame those who by their own choice decide they want to do things contrary to God’s will. Ultimately, God’s plan will come to completion and He will reconcile all things in heaven and on earth to Himself. I the meantime, the ride is a bit bumpy to say the least, but understand that there is a reason and purpose for everything under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
God is in total control. God can and will deliver you from evil if you rest in Him. God will vindicate you for any wrong done unto you when Christ returns and God’s kingdom is established. God will wipe all the tears from your eyes and remove all the heartbreak from your heart when He wraps everything up at the consummation of all tings.
Colossians 1:19,20 In him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
The earth is the Lord’s and He will establish it in righteousness when all things have been reconciled to Him.
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.
I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
No matter how good or hard it gets down here, always remember that God is in control. God knows what He’s doing and will bring all things to perfection. At that time, this present earth and all the evil and pain in it will seem like a second compared to all eternity. The new earth will be totally perfect and will have no evil whatsoever — by choice — and yes, we will still have choice. We’ll just know better than to do anything contrary to God’s will.
God has said it and that settles it — I believe it! How about you?
