Are Christian Protests Against Islamic Terrorism Justified?

Protest Islamic Terrorism

As we watch over a million protesters against Islamic terrorism gather in France to decry the recent attacks, many Christians are wondering if we should be participating in protests like this. It’s a good question because we want to be involved where God wants us to be involved and we want to avoid that which God says to avoid.

The Scriptures talk about turning the other cheek when someone slaps you. It talks about giving two coats to the person who asks for one. This pattern of answering evil with good is what God and our Lord Jesus Christ are all about. Answering evil with evil is definitely the wrong path. God will not bless that. But what about protests?

Let’s see what Jesus has to say about speaking out against evil.

John 16:5-11  But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

Of sin, because they believe not on me;

Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

The Comforter is the Spirit of Truth which gave birth to the Christian church on Pentecost. Those who are born again of God’s spirit have this comforter which Jesus said would reprove the world of sin “because they believe not on me.”

The Bible Itself Condemns Islam and Calls Mohammed a Liar

Islam does not believe on the Christ of God. They believe Jesus lived and never died. They teach Judas was crucified in the place of Jesus and God just pulled Jesus up into heaven alive. Hence, nobody who believes what the Koran and writings included in the Hadith (authoritative writings about the false prophet Mohammed)  teach about Jesus are saved. Absolutely no-one.

I John 2:22  Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denies the Father and the Son.

When people say that Islam is peaceful and that Islamic terrorists are ‘hijacking’ Islam, they are ignorant of the true nature of Islam. Every Muslim is commanded by the Koran to engage in worldwide Jihad to take over the world for Allah. Not one is excluded from this command. The penalty for not becoming Islamic is death. The penalty for those who leave Islam is also death. There is no question about it, the Koran itself teaches Islamic extremism and terrorism.

The Proper Christian Response to Islam is Rejection

Christians should respond to Islam and Islamic terrorism the way God wants us to respond. If the comforter, the holy spirit of truth that we were born of is within us, we need to respond the way the spirit responds. We’ve seen that means to reprove those who hold such a contrary and antichristic doctrine. Reproof is the correct response, not acceptance. We do not condone Islamic beliefs nor the resulting violence stemming from those believes.

But Christians are not called to wage war with Islam.

Romans 12:19  Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord.

The Lord will avenge us; we don’t need to and are told not to avenge ourselves. These can be hard words for those in the immediate families and close friends of Christians who have been hurt or killed by Islamic terrorism, but God wants us to know it’s not over with the acts they commit. Each of them will stand in judgement before our Lord Jesus Christ and each will pay for their blasphemous words and works.

Let The Weeds Grow With The Wheat Until Jesus Returns

Jesus told us to engage others with words, not swords, until he returns. He’ll be wielding the Sword of God Almighty when he returns and all you have to do is read the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ to see what he does with it.

Mattnew 13:24-29  Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

Islam Will be Rooted Up

Islam is not here forever. It will have its day in the person of the Antichrist and his temporary subjugation of the world, but that is only for an hour on God’s timetable. Though they may reek havoc now, they will pay for their sin. Each Muslim will, eventually, voluntarily confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God our Father. That will be after they are purged from their evil thoughts and ways.

God said it, I believe it. That’s it.

To answer my original question, should Christians protest against Islamic terrorism, I believe the answer is clear. We’re to speak out against Islam itself, not just Islamic terrorism, but we are not to use any form of violence at all. If you are attacked you do have the right to defend yourself. There’s nothing wrong with that. But take no violent offensive against them.

That’s Jesus Christ’s job when he returns!
